Mk 316 mod 0Mod

Deadshot2,guess we posted at the same time. My information from another forum shows MK316 Mod 0 to be marked as FC 13 crimped primers and no nato cross, the military package show it as M118lr special ball long range MK316 Mod 0, and unlike the M118 LR it does not have the headstamp LR, some lots may be marked earlier dates. Havent had a chance to shoot any more along side some M118LR for accuracy testing. Thanks again for replies. Was told that the Fed GMM packaged 7.62X51 is the same accept for package.I shoot MK316 Mod 0 'all the time'.

Well not exactly, I guess to be correct it should be called MK316 Mod 'M' (for 'Mine')It's a FC commercial case, 175 SMK, 42.4 gr IMR 4064, FGM210M primer. While the production sheet shows the round to contain 41.75 gr of IMR 4064 I found that just adding the extra 2/3 gr probably makes up for the fact that my powder is 'Retail'.I prefer to shoot MY MK316 Mod 0 because it only costs me about $0.50 each using fired brass. It is one of my better loads but for me it doesn't have enough speed for really Loooooooooong range shooting. I go to my IMR 8208 XBR in Winchester cases for that. Deadshot2, thanks for the load information. Haven't shot enough of the 7.62x51 to get cases for reloading, but do have some M118Lr brass and 175smks will try your load, what coal are you using? Hopefully mag length.

Also the brass is not polished in the loads I have not that that matters I can polish it. Haven't tried xbr 8208 with 175s yet, so many loads not enough time lol.I shoot the 175/FC/4064 load @ 2.825' COAL. That 'Just Fits' in my rifle's magazine. When I go to 2.830' the feed can be unreliable. For the record I've done a lot of work with the Dremel, removing burr's and polishing various feed surfaces but no dimensional changes. As for polishing the brass? Astro vision lifesign 12.5 full version cracked. Why would that matter? Unless they are so corroded they are 'crusty', it's just a matter of how much you want to impress the guy at the next bench.

I'd rather do that when I bring my targets backFWIW, on my old 5-R Milspec I used to shoot strictly 2.800' OAL. I figured that there wasn't much difference in.175' of jump or.200' The original Remington barrel was apparently throated by someone who forgot to install the stops on his throating reamer.

The open-tipped rounds until now have been available only to Special Operations Command troops. The first 200,000 7.62 Special Operations Science and Technology rounds are already downrange with Marine Expeditionary Brigade-Afghanistan. SOCOM developed the new rounds for use with the Special Operations Force Combat Assault Rifle, or SCAR, which needed a more accurate bullet because its short barrel, at 13.8 inches, is less than an inch shorter than the M4 carbine’s. Using an open-tip match round design common with some sniper ammunition, SOST rounds are designed to be “barrier blind,” meaning they stay on target better than existing M855 rounds after penetrating windshields, car doors and other objects.MFR#: T762TNB1.
